Windows 10 is the worst operating system I’ve ever used

And boy have I used a lot of them. MS-DOS, Windows 3.1 and every subsequent release, OS/2, many Linux distros starting with Slackware 2.0 (iirc) back in 1995ish. Mac stuff. Solaris, SunOS, AIX, HPUX, etc.

Windows 10 is the worst operating system I’ve ever used, and it’s not even close. I didn’t want Win10, it came with this tablet. I’ll list a few of the reasons you should never buy a tablet or computer that ships with the worst operating system in history,

It tries to force you to login to a Microsoft Outlook account to even use the computer. While this can be avoided–you can create a ‘local’ account–it’s not at all easy to do and is a giant hassle.

Even with a local account, you’re often forced to log in with a password each time you use the tablet. I once managed to disable the password screen when waking from sleep mode but it’s back. Microsoft turned it back on and I can’t get rid of it.

Why does the keyboard cover the active window? Shouldn’t the window resize? What I don’t get here is that in Win 8.1, the window did resize, just like it should. I guess Microsoft thought that made the computer too useful?

It automatically downloads updates and there’s no way to disable this behaviour short of setting every connection you use to be a ‘metered’ connection. It’s unacceptable that I have to trick the computer into not doing something because some idiot at Microsoft decided he’s better qualified to manage my computer than I am.

And, then, don’t forget to explicitly set every new network you connect to as ‘metered’ too, otherwise you go to a friend’s house only to have your tablet start installing updates.

It does that whenever it wants, too. You don’t get to pick a time or say, no, I’m busy now. The blasted thing just decides you don’t need your computer right then and it takes over. Check back in a half hour, you schmuck.

The keys on the onscreen keyboard are always moving around. Hit shift, or control, a everything moves. In some views the space bar–the most-used key on the keyboard–is the same size as every other key on the keyboard. All to make room for stupid ass smiley button? And a ‘.com’ button? Are you kidding me??!  This is the worst UI fail I’ve seen since possibly ever.

The permissions make no sense. I don’t have ‘permission’ to edit the hosts file, but I do have permission to edit another file then copy it over the hosts file. What?

The file manager, explorer shell, whatever it’s called, is atrocious, particularly on a tablet. I’m always accidentally moving folders into other folders because I brushed the screen wrong. The preview page takes up too much space. The commands are always in different places. It won’t remember any preferred settings.

I can’t disable Cortana (which is always running, churning, indexing, presumably listening) without losing the ability to search the computer for anything.

“Oh, I see you’ve picked up your tablet. You must want to use it. Let me just launch a dozen processes that’ll prevent you from doing that, including the Microsoft Store that you never use.”

Speaking of things never used…why is Solitaire always running? Why is it always restarted when I kill it? Why is it on the internet constantly? Why does it want me to give it money?

“Select the portion of the screen you’d like to save as a screenshot, just don’t venture even slightly toward a screen edge or we’ll assume you want to create a new desktop, or view the sidebar, or select a different Window, or…”

“Hey, you should backup your data.” “Hey, the backup crashed for an unknown reason. Again, like it always does after 30 mins, no matter which options you pick.”

I can count on zero hands the number of times I’ve wanted clicking something or pressing a key in an application to open a web browser pointed at Microsoft’s help site. And that’s over 30 years of using computers. Yet this terrible operating system has somehow managed to open these browsers hundreds if not thousands of times. Each time, with me saying, no, no, NO, STOP, WHY?

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Listen–I am not kidding when I say this is the worst OS in history. It is. WINDOWS 10 IS THE WORST OPERATING SYSTEM EVER.  I will go so far out of my way to never buy anything from Microsoft ever again. It really is that bad.

You’re much better off with iOS, or Android, or ChromeOS, or Ubuntu, or anything that isn’t Windows 10.  Whatever the additional cost, avoid Win 10 like the plague. If you’re looking for a new job, don’t go to work for a company that uses Windows 10, they hate you. Don’t ever get within a mile of any device that uses Win10. Don’t ever do business with a company that uses Windows 10. If you do, you will regret it.
